Many members remain voracious readers long after their training years and it has been on our minds to get a member book club started. Since we cannot really get together in person, we are going to make it easy to do it online together.
This Winter 2021 we're going to pick up The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, a #1 New York Times bestseller which describes the immortal cell line known as HeLa taken from Lack's cervical cancer cells in 1951 without her knowledge. It also won the 2011 National Academies Communication Award for best creative work that helps the public understanding of topics in science, engineering or medicine. The book explores ethical issues of race and class in medical research.
The Book Club will meet Wednesday March 10th, 7-8 PM via Zoom. You may register to attend here.
